On her wedding day, Emma received a touching mystery message on her wedding shoes—it turned out it was a message from her terminally ill mom who passed away two years ago.
In 2016, Emma Letts became the luckiest girl when her fiancé Richard proposed to her.
But her world soon came crashing down when she found out that her mom was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, who sadly passed away in 2017 before the wedding.
But her loving mom wanted to be with her on her special day, so came up with the sweetest and most heartbreaking way be part of her wedding.
She left a touching message on Emma’s wedding shoes without her knowing!
After her engagement, Emma, 38, customised a pair of shoes from Lace and Love in Loughborough, Leicestershire.
In March 2019, five months before her wedding, Emma found out that her pair of wedding shoes was already paid for by her late mother.
Little did Emma know that her mom left her final blessings on the sole of the wedding shoes.
The message on the shoes read, “Wanted you to have a gift from me on your wedding day.”
“Your wedding shoes are my gift to you. Hope you have a magical day. Lots and lots of love and big hugs, MUM xxxx.”
At first, the bride-to-be did not know who the message was from. She told the BBC that “I pulled out the one shoe and I saw part of the message I couldn’t think who it would be.”
“I had absolutely no idea, my fiancé knew about it. It was just an absolute shock”
As soon as she found out it was her mom’s final message she burst into tears as she was so emotional.
“I started to cry … I was just absolutely in bits. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk,” she said.
Ever since her mom found out her days were numbered, she began writing letters to her loved ones.
But before she could write one for Emma, she sadly passed away.
So the message and final blessings on the weddings shoes meant even more to Emma.
“I didn’t get a letter, she just ran out of time, so this is special to me,” she told the BBC.
Lace and Love has always offered its customers the option to add a personal message to shoes, said the owner, Amanda Weise, during an interview with INSIDER.
But this particular message touched her heart.
“Although I’ve made hundreds of pairs of shoes I have never made a pair of shoes with such poignance and emotion to them before.
“It’s probably the most emotional pair of shoes I’m ever going to make,” Amanda told the BBC.
“Hopefully it will give her a bit of comfort on the day. It will be like walking down the aisle with her mum.”
