Meet Nanita Ronquillo—the 55-year-old Filipina single mom who dedicated years working hard so she could send her son to medical school. Her son always hoped  to become a doctor, so Nanita worked extremely hard to help him achieve his dreams.

After she separated from her husband, Nanita decided to make a living of her own to raise their son, John Nico Ronquillo.

From then on, life was never easy for Nanita, but she worked extremely hard as a fish vendor, earning around P1,000 (USD $19) a day.

She wants nothing more than for her son to have a better life, so wakes up at 5am every morning, and works tirelessly until around 12 p.m.

However, if she still has some unsold fish, she often returns again and continues to work until around 5 or 6 p.m.

Despite the smelly, unpleasant and tough working environment, she puts her head down and carries on courageously, as she is determined to provide for her beloved son.

She told her son they would both eventually make it one day, as long as they keep motivated.

“Whatever happens, both of us can work it out together. Whatever dream you have, you can achieve it,” she said.

Due to the nature of her work, her finances were not always stable. Sometimes, John would even have to drop out of school because they couldn’t afford to pay tuition.

This meant that it took John six years to complete his degree instead of four. But he eventually made it as he was so determined to make his mom proud!

He owes everything to his loving mom.

There is nothing as pure as a mom’s love for her children and family. They’re lucky to have each other. Well done to John for achieving his dreams!
