Teachers are incredible—they impart invaluable knowledge and educate us with the hope of moulding us to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Some dedicated teachers even try to help their students who are going through domestic hardship because they know it would affect their studies.

Nathan Alexandar, a 34-year-old math professor from Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia, no doubt fits under the definition of a dedicated teacher.

He offered to babysit his student’s baby whilst giving his lecture!

The baby’s father, Wayne Hayer, recently enrolled in Nathan’s class. When he couldn’t find anyone to babysit Assata, he brought her along! He refused to skip class.

So when Nathan saw Wayne entering his class, he did not chase him out instead offered him a helping hand.

Nick Vaughn, another student from Nathan’s class posted on Facebook, “As one of my peers walked into the classroom with his child in arms he quickly explained to my professor that he couldn’t find a babysitter and had nobody else that could watch her.”

He made the sweet gesture so Wayne could take “better notes in class”, Nick said.

According to the BuzzFeed News, Nathan held Assata throughout the whole 50 minutes of his class and a further 10 to 15 minutes when answering questions from other students.

Nathan told the Buzzfeed News, he was worried at first.

“I’m not a father, I don’t have children of my own.”

“I was worried that she would start crying. But it actually went perfectly. She was extremely well behaved.”

Although not a father, Nathan is clearly a natural from the way he handled Assata.

He bounced her up and down lightly and patted her whilst teaching. He even joked that his teaching bored Assata to sleep.

Nathan told BuzzFeed News, “When she started falling asleep, I told the class, ‘I guess I’m being boring right now.’”

Many people have praised Nathan for his heartwarming gesture!

Assata’s mother, Firda Amalia Hayer, was also touched by what the professor did for her daughter and Wayne.

She posted on Facebook, “Seeing the outpouring of support from friends, family and strangers for Assata and Wayne is a sight to behold.

“I can feel the genuine love and enthusiasm. We never asked for attention; all that I’ve personally asked for is authenticity in your love and support. We are new parents.”

She then thanked Nathan, “Thank you to black educators like Dr. Nathan Alexander for your compassion and understanding.”

Firda even revealed that Wayne is working two jobs to provide for the family. This is impressive considering he is also a full-time student at Morehouse College.

We hope everything goes smoothly for the Hayers. And once again, well done Professor Nathan Alexander for your care and support towards your students.
