Whether you like them or not, teachers play a huge role in our lives. Besides imparting invaluable knowledge onto us, they also teach us how to be better versions of ourselves.
They’re like our parents during school hours. They lecture, teach and discipline us.
Sadly, in many parts of the world, full and part-time teachers are underpaid, especially when teaching in underfunded schools.
Bruno Rafael Paiva, a substitute teacher in Brazil, was in a bit of a tough spot as he hadn’t been paid for two months.
As he had already been experiencing financial difficulty, his delayed payment didn’t make things any easier.
Bruno took to Facebook to share his difficult situation. “Teacher life is not easy,” he wrote.
“When I saw that I was not going to receive a month and a half’s salary, I saw everything going black.
“I sank into depression, worried and lost, without knowing how to pay the bills and help my family,” he added.
But then his students did the sweetest thing. It turned out they found out about his situation and decided to help him out.
Then they unveiled their surprise in the most heartwarming way!
Bruno posted a clip of himself entering a classroom where he was met with the sweetest and most unexpected surprise!
His students can be seen telling him to walk around the classroom and read the notes they wrote on every table (they were appreciation and apology notes. So sweet!).
The final note told him to go to his desk to open a box, where money they raised for him was kept!
They had managed to raise money to help ease Bruno’s financial difficulty!
When Bruno saw the money, he was so touched he couldn’t hold back his tears, and started crying in the middle of the classroom.
His students then rushed up to hug him!
Bruno couldn’t get over the sweet gesture. “I have many rooms that I have loved in my heart as a teacher, but no room has ever shown such love, help and affection for my teacher’s work as the class did today,” he said.
“They are students, like me who still believe in the education of the country; believe in the love of others; and in the compassion of putting oneself in the place of others.”
He uploaded the whole surprise documented by his students on Facebook, which went viral.
A GoFundMe campaign titled “helping Teacher Bruno and students” has also raised almost $4,500!
What a sweet bunch of kids!
